Medical Malpractice Takaful Scheme
Antah Insurance Brokers has developed a tailor-made Medical Malpractice Takaful together with PERDIM (Pertubuhan Doktor-Doktor Islam Malaysia) to cater for all Registered Medical Practitioners in Malaysia. With the introduction of the scheme on 1st October 2016, it was subsequently officially launched on 27th October 2017. Being a Takaful insurance broker we have the knowledge and experience to manage and administer members’ interests regarding Takaful.
As a Registered Medical Practitioner, you can be legally liable to pay as damages on bodily injuries to your patient caused by Malpractice and defence costs. Medical Indemnity Takaful is compulsory by law, it has already been implemented into the Medical (Amendment) Act 2012 and Medical Regulations 2017 and to come into force in 1st January 2019. Below is an excerpt of Section 20 of the principal Act as amended:
“Any fully registered person who desires to practice as a medical practitioner after the thirty-first day of December of any year and who produces evidence of having satisfied by the Council shall, not later than the first day of December of that year, make an application in the prescribed form, produce evidence of professional indemnity cover and pay the prescribed fee for a certificate to practice as a medical practitioner during the ensuing year”.
Apart from regulatory reasons medical indemnity takaful should form part of any medical practitioners overall risk management philosophy and should be bought as a last line of defence to protect the practitioner in the event of an adverse incident.
